Rating: *******
Comment: At least Robert aka Bobby Crawford in at least s5e13 in faded, tight bibs. Pic is from The Rifleman s1e23 (1959) showing him on right next to his brother Johnny.

I recently found this during research for my Western blog (other boys, rating 4-(6) for now). I thought, I already had this there.

This episode is currently not available online and season 5 is not on DVD. There are several pics showing him in bibs like on his official site. So pic needs to be updated later.

There are also some other boys and teen boys in this series, but I currently don’t know of any others in bibs.

Rating 7 for now.

I want to announce again, that I also found my recording of the recent unknown movie/series on my sailor suit blog. Maybe it’s Five Mile Creek.  New pics on my other blog. Can anybody confirm this?

Update: Curly Top (1935)

23 Jun

curlytop2

I recently found a colorized pic of Shirley Temple with a different title and thought of a new movie, but it was from “Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938)“, which I already had.

But I found a clip from Curly Top (1935) which I also had, but showing next to 7 yo Shirley Temple some more girls in bibs.

Simple bibs. Backside simple suspenders only.

Main entry, still rating 4 at

Update: Mickey McGuire (film series)

14 Jun

mickeysthrillhunters-3mickeysthrillhunters-2

As announced, some more movies and interesting scenes.

Pics 1+2 are again from Mickey’s Thrill Hunters. In pic 1 there’s obviously the same actor, I already had with the modern haircut. Sleeveless shirt and 1 strap down.

In pic 2 there’s one boy in bibs hanging at the roof of a high building and other kids helping him by grabbing him at his bibs. Sorry to all victims of the fire in London. I captured this before.

Pic 3 from “Mickey’s Circus” showing some boys sliding in bibs. Also other actions on the playground.

Pic 4 from “Mickey’s Helping Hand” showing a boy in faded bibs. Maybe the same as in pic 1.

Probably most or all of the other movies showing boys and men in bibs as well, like “Mickey’s Luck”. Now also on my Western blog. Maybe one more entry later.

Main entry here, rating 7

R.I.P. Ulf Stark (“Dårfinkar & dönickar”). I only have here Tsatsiki part 3. More movies on my shiny shorts blog (rating up to 10).

The Fighting Smile

jeanarthur-sevenchancesfightingsmile

Silent Western starring Bill Cody
Year: 1925
Year in film: ~1870s
Country: USA
Who in bibs: Rose ~24
Available on DVD: no
I own: no
Clothing occurence: low ?
Rating:  3/10 ?
Rating: ***
Comment: At least Jean Arthur (1900-1991, “Shane”) in faded bibs. Pic 1 showing her in the 1925 Buster Keaton movie “Seven Chances”.

I found this by coincidence but couldn’t find any better pics or clips. The movie is obviously very rare but not a lost movie.

Quite rare for a lady wearing bibs, especially these days. Usually she had blonde hair.

Probably an interesting movie.

Rating 3 for now.

Mickey McGuire (film series)

5 Jun

mickeymcguire2mickeymcguiremickeyshelpinghand

78 comedy short films starring Mickey Rooney
Year: 1927-1934
Year in film: 1920s, 30s
Country: USA
Who in bibs: boys ~5-12, men
Available on DVD: partly
I own: no
Clothing occurence: medium
Rating:  7/10 ?
Rating: *******
Comment: Some boys and men in bibs, both white and black. Wet and sitting scenes. Most notably this boy with modern longer hair at front. Can anybody identify him? First I thought of Marvin Stephens, but he is light blonde. Also not Rooney, nor little Billy Barty. Jimmy Robinson is black and also wore bibs. Some characters had more than one cast. Katrink was played by 3 different boys throughout the years. One girl (tomboy) but not in bibs? Most of the gang (Scorpions club) is uncredited on IMDb. Dickie Jones and Kendall McComas had similar hair but are younger.

I’m currently watching some of my classic DVDs (My Dog Shep), and searched for recent DVD releases and so found this nice Our Gang like series (partly same actors). 1927-partly 1929 are silent films. Rest with sound. Many were re-released under different titles. At least some were put on different McGuire and Rooney compilation DVDs (after his death).

I like classics, although the image quality, especially of the earlier films are probably quite bad (although remastered ?). Few real raw denim bibs, at least one black man in hickory stripes.

Pics 1+2 from Mickey’s Vacation, pic 3 from Mickey’s Helping Hand, pic 4 from Mickey’s Thrill Hunters (wet scenes), pic 5 from Mickey’s Rebellion (sitting, also close up). All from 1931.

More entries coming later. Also soon on my Western blog.

Rating even 7-8 for now.

Rooney in bibs in Babes on Broadway (rating 2) and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1939) rating 3.

I now also have a pic and clip of Concours de danse à Piriac. Thanks db1!

Family film starring Manfred Krug
Year: 1969
Year in film: 1960s
Country: East Germany
Who in bibs: girls ~9, 19
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Bib occurence: low
Rating:  3/10 ?
Rating: ***
Comment: There’s at least one older teen girl/young woman and a young kid, probably a short haired girl in bibs. Bib at low position. Backsides simple suspenders only.

Also at least one boy in Lederhosen (without suspenders, Lederhosen blog rating 6). And some swimming scenes.

It’s completely on YouTube (in Russian) but not with a preview window. So, I only have checked some parts and only found these 2 brief scenes. Pic 1 at 48 minutes, pic 2 at 8 minutes.

There are better movies. Rating 3 for bibs for now only. 1965 novel by Horst Beseler.

Update: The Night of the Hunter

17 Jan

nightofthehunter-nnightofthehunter-n2

As announced, Billy Chapin died in December 2016. I recently found a TV recording on DVDr, but I still hadn’t the time to watch the complete movie at slow speed. But I have checked many parts and have chosen these new pics.

Several good scenes, with and without a straw hat. Also sitting on the grass, good rear view and a woman touching his neck and strap.

Main entry rating 7-

/2011/03/05/the-night-of-the-hunter/

R.I.P.

I also have the 1991 remake in color with an older teen boy.

Country: USA
Who in bibs: boys ~8, 10, Edie ~8

Rating: *****
Comment: At least 2 boys at school, one in dark and one in light blue or beige bibs. Also  Virginia Weidler at the end fishing in raw denim bibs. 1930s and farm setting.

Luckily just now on YouTube but I only have checked the movie at high speed. Obviously rather few good scenes. Rating 4-5 for now.

Also on my pigtails blog, rating 5.

Update: Our Gang

20 Oct

ourgang-n2ourgang-n5

Searching for boys sporting pigtails, I found the boy Farina (pic 4, also on my pigtails blog with different, real pigtails) and also some more boys in bibs.

Pic 1 is from the movie “The Pooch” (1932) which I already had (new pic). Pic 2 is from “A Lad An’ A Lamp” (1932) probably the same boy but nice rear view and not colorized.

Pic 3 showing some boys sitting in “The Pigskin Palooka” (1937). Also other nice historic clothes like American Football pants.

Pic 4 is from “When The Wind Blows (1930)“.

I haven’t seen all movies yet. But this series has entries on all my 5 blogs.

I like classics and these are very funny, but most kids are very young. Rating 4-5 for this ones.

Main overview entry (rating 4 with entries rating up to 6 including raw denim bibs)
